Solar Decathlon

The Solar Decathlon Development Area is a targeted means of utilizing collaborative student based research across the entire DTU domain with the committed participation of industry as providers and sponsors. The Solar Decathlon is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy. Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. Technical University of Denmark participated along with students from 19 other universities from 15 countries and four continents in the international competition "Solar Decathlon Europe 2012", which perished in Madrid, Spain. In the quest for sustainable societal developments this Development Area facilitates the general strategy of DTU Civil Engineering while meeting the needs of society. The competition takes place in Europe every second year, and the university was in December 2012 squad to once again take part in the prestigious competition "Solar Decathlon Europe 2014".
