Lecture: Digital Architecture Education at Salford University and the recent BIM development in UK
Speaker: Professor Arto Kiviniemi
Date: Thursday October 4, 16:00 - 16:45
Location: Auditorium 81, Building 116
About the lecture
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is currently a topical issue in the UK AEC (architectural, engineering and construction) industry, because Government’s new construction strategy will require “fully collaborative 3D BIM with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic as a minimum by 2016.” Integrated use of BIM is a fundamental transformation and potentially the biggest change the traditionally conservative AEC industry has ever experienced.
About Professor Kiviniemi
Dr. Arto Kiviniemi, Professor of Digital Architectural Design and Head of Design Directorate at the School of Built Environment in the University of Salford, has Master of Science in Architecture at Helsinki University of Technology and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. Arto started as an architect and made an extensive design career 1972-1996, including 12 first prizes in architectural competitions as the main assistant of Arto Sipinen, one of the leading architects in Finland. Since 1996 Arto has developed Integrated Building Information Modelling (BIM) both in Finland and internationally. In 1996-2006 he worked at VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) as a Chief Research Scientist and in 2006-2008 as the Research Professor for ICT in Built Environment. In 2008-2010 Arto returned into the industry as the Vice President of Innovation and Development at Olof Granlund, the leading Building Services Engineering company in Finland, where he was responsible of the research strategy and projects in the company.
